DTF Pressing Instructions
How to Properly Press DTF Transfers for the Best Results
At SV Printing and Transfers, we make it easy to get professional results from every DTF print. Whether you’re pressing a full gang sheet or a single logo, following the correct heat press settings is key to achieving vibrant color, strong adhesion, and long-lasting durability.
This step-by-step guide will help you press your DTF transfers perfectly — every time.
🧤 What You’ll Need
Before you start, make sure you have the right setup:
-
A quality heat press (not an iron)
-
Teflon sheet or parchment paper for protection
-
Lint roller (optional, for fabric prep)
-
Your DTF transfer from SV Printing and Transfers
-
A clean, flat garment surface
⚙️ Step-by-Step Pressing Instructions
Step 1: Pre-Press Your Garment
Pre-press your shirt or garment for 5 seconds at 300°F to remove moisture and wrinkles.
This ensures the DTF transfer adheres evenly and smoothly.
Step 2: Position the Transfer
Place your DTF transfer face down (design side up) on the garment exactly where you want it pressed.
Use heat-resistant tape if needed to keep it in position.
Step 3: Press
Set your heat press to the following settings:
-
Temperature: 310°F – 320°F
-
Pressure: Medium to Firm (about 60 PSI)
-
Time: 10 – 15 seconds
Press evenly across the full transfer. Avoid sliding or shifting the press during application.
Step 4: Cool and Peel
After pressing, let the transfer cool for 5–10 seconds before peeling.
Then gently peel the film at a slow, steady angle.
💡 Tip:
For a cold peel, allow the print to cool completely for maximum crispness.
For a warm peel, wait just a few seconds before removing — this works best with lighter designs.
Step 5: Final Press
After peeling, cover your design with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper and press again for 5–10 seconds at 310°F.
This “second press” locks in the ink, adds a smooth finish, and boosts durability — ensuring your print lasts wash after wash.
🧼 Washing & Care Instructions
Proper garment care will help your DTF prints last longer and look new for months to come.
✅ Wait 24 hours before the first wash.
✅ Wash inside out in cold or warm water.
✅ Use mild detergent (no bleach or softeners).
✅ Tumble dry low or hang dry.
🚫 Do not iron directly on the design.
Your print will remain soft, flexible, and vibrant after dozens of washes when pressed and cared for correctly.
🧠 Pro Tips for Best Results
-
Always press on a flat, even surface to ensure full heat contact.
-
Check your temperature accuracy with a heat gun if your press runs hot or cool.
-
For textured garments (like hoodies), insert a pressing pillow under the print area.
-
Do not press over seams, zippers, or buttons — they prevent even pressure.
-
For bulk orders, do a test press on one item before pressing the rest.
⚡ Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Using a household iron instead of a heat press
❌ Pressing too hot (causes ink distortion)
❌ Skipping the second press
❌ Peeling too early or too fast
❌ Forgetting to pre-press to remove moisture
